There are many different types of self-help approaches out there, and some have better success rates than others, so it would help to speak to a Health Care Professional before starting one.
Do some research and see what others are saying about the particular self-help method you wish to try. It would also help to speak to a Health Care Professional and see what they would recommend. Ultimately, you want to find one that fits with your particular situation.
